Discarded fishing line, fishhooks, plastic bags, beer and soda cans, fish carcasses and other litter is familiar to anyone who’s spent time on the many fishing bridges throughout the Keys.

The Ladies Upper Keys Invitational Regatta will be held this Saturday at the Upper Keys Sailing Club on Buttonwood Sound. The event begins with a race clinic for novice and intermediate sailors starting at 9 a.m.

The Portsmouth Fall Series Race #3 will be run this Saturday with a skippers meeting at noon and the first flag at 1 p.m. Since this is the last race in the Fall Series, there will be an awards ceremony following the race.

More than 30 junior sailors ages 8-17 have registered to compete in the Mark Sorensen Youth Sailing Program Fall Youth Championship Regatta on Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend the Halloween All-comers Race will be run on Saturday with a skippers meeting at noon and first flag at 1 p.m. Any vessel with a sail, from an Opti to a large PHRF boat, is eligible to participate. This mix of boats usually makes for some lively competition.
