EDITOR: As one of the more than 16,000 people who voted for Mary Vanden Brook in last month's election, I strongly disagree with your recent editorial about the election. There is nothing selfish about contesting the ballot results when recounts have come up with four different numbers. Doesn't this make you question the accuracy of the counts? And shouldn't the most important thing about an election be getting it right?

- Restaurant walks the walk
EDITOR: We had the pleasure of attending the Island Grill locals' appreciation Christmas party. The food was plentiful, delicious and free. The beverages were very well priced and the band was fantastic. Best of all, they are dog-friendly, unlike other establishments that set their rules based on the whims of whoever is working that night.

- Accuracy of some grouper data in doubt
To the Editor: For-hire, commercial and recreational anglers can breathe a temporary sigh of relief over the recent decision by the National Marine Fisheries Service to rescind the interim rule on Amendment 16 that would close the shallow water grouper fishery in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida on Jan. 1, 2009 through April 30.
